Is it possible to have hepatitis C and not know it?

Related Questions

Yes, it is very possible to have hepatitis C and not know it. As many as 70 percent to 80 percent of people with acute hepatitis C (the initial infection that is sometimes naturally cleared from the body) don't have any symptoms.
About 75 percent to 85 percent of people who get acute hepatitis C will go on to have chronic hepatitis C. Without treatment, most of those people will go on to have chronic liver disease eventually (typically after many years), which is when symptoms really show up. People generally have no idea they have hepatitis C until symptoms appear unless they happen to get tested earlier. Unfortunately, you can still spread the disease even if you have no symptoms.
