Answer
You can get the morning-after pill, also known as emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs), at pharmacies and stores with a licensed pharmacist. Another option is to contact your local Planned Parenthood health center, where they can provide you with what you need under the same regulations.
Some ECPs, such as
Plan B One-Step™ or
Next Choice®, are available over-the-counter (OTC), with some exceptions. These particular ECPs are approved for sale without a prescription to any man or woman who is at least 17 years old. You will need to ask for these at the pharmacy, as these products are kept behind the counter. You must also show proof of age with a government-issued identification, such as a driver's license, in order to buy these products.
It's a good idea to call ahead to the pharmacy to see if they carry these medications. The selection may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. You will need a prescription from your healthcare provider if you are younger than 17. Talk to your parents, your healthcare provider, or visit a family planning clinic and ask for help.
