Is Plan B Considered a Morning-After Pill?

I've heard Plan B referred to as "emergency contraception." Is that different from the morning-after pill? If it is different, what is the brand name for the morning-after pill?

Answer

Emergency contraception is also known as the morning-after pill, emergency birth control, and backup birth control. You will often hear these terms being used interchangeably. Plan B One-Step™ is an emergency contraceptive. Other brand-name emergency contraceptive products you may see include Next Choice™ and ella®. These medications are used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex.
