Is Exercise Good for Chronic Pain?

I’ve been dealing with chronic pain for eight years now. I’ve read that exercise can sometimes help with symptoms. I’d like to try using exercise, but I’m not sure where to start. What kind of exercise is most beneficial for those with chronic pain?

Answer

There is no one type of exercise that is most beneficial for all people with chronic pain, largely due to the wide variety of causes of chronic pain. The best type of exercise for you is any type that is safe (check with your healthcare provider first) and enjoyable. Exercise isn't helpful if you don't do it, so find something you like. Your healthcare provider may have specific suggestions about exercise based on your unique situation.
