Answer

There is little evidence to suggest that any particular diet, such as a diet designed to reduce inflammation, will have any meaningful effect on chronic pain for most people. While choosing a healthier diet is certainly a worthwhile endeavor for a variety of other reasons, it might not have a drastic effect on chronic pain.

There is one very important exception -- any diet that causes weight loss may provide significant benefits for many different types of chronic pain, such as osteoarthritis. Talk with your healthcare provider before undertaking any major dietary changes, though.

People with documented food sensitivities will likely benefit from avoiding the offending food(s), but for most people, restricting entire categories of food, such as gluten, probably will not be helpful.
