How Often Is an A1c Test Needed?

How often should I have an A1c test completed? 


If you have been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and are receiving treatment, A1c should be tested every three months to monitor how well the treatment is working. A1c testing can be done twice yearly if you haven't had any changes in medication and your blood glucose levels are stable.
If you have pre-diabetes, A1c testing can be done once yearly. All adults age 45 and older should be tested every three years. Adults under age 45 who are overweight and have one of the following risk factors should also be tested every three years:
