Is It Possible I Have Cervical Cancer If I Just Had a Normal Internal Uterine Ultrasound a Month Ago?

My doctor wants to do further testing to rule out cervical cancer. The thing is, I had a normal internal uterine ultrasound just a month ago. I thought that meant I'm in the clear. Could I have cervical cancer?

Possibly. The best tools your doctor has for spotting cervical cancer include a Pap test; human papillomavirus (HPV) test, which can be done using the same sample taken during the Pap test; colposcopy, a simple test in which the doctor uses a special magnifying device to get a better look at the cervix; and biopsy, in which a small sample of cervical tissue is removed and sent to a lab to be examined under a microscope.
It is possible to have a normal uterine ultrasound but still have cervical cancer, especially in the early stages of the disease, which is why ultrasound isn't used as a screening method for cervical cancer.
