Water helps to lubricate our joints. It carries oxygen and nutrients to our cells, aides in temperature regulation, and flushes toxins from our body. Staying hydrated can reduce fatigue and help prevent joint stiffness.

The use of heat and cold can sometimes help with RA symptoms. If you struggle with morning stiffness, applying heat to stiff joints can help to relax muscles and ease movement. Applying an ice pack to an affected joint when it first becomes inflamed can help to reduce pain.
People with RA who stop smoking often see an improvement in their daily pain (both in the number of joints affected and the severity of pain). Furthermore, quitting smoking can lessen your risk of cardiovascular disease, a major problem for those with RA.
A few studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids (like those in fish oil) can help to reduce joint pain, stiffness, and other symptoms of RA. In addition, people with RA who take fish oil may be able to lower their dosage of anti-inflammatory drugs. So if it sounds fishy, go ahead and dig in!
