Is There a Cure for Diabetes?
I've read about a number of developments in the treatment of diabetes recently, including one article that claimed scientists had found a cure. It seems too good to be true, but is there actually a cure for diabetes?

Answer
Pancreas or islet cell transplants have made it possible for a small number of people with type 1 diabetes to be "cured," although these people need to take medication for the rest of their lives to prevent their own immune systems from attacking and damaging the transplanted cells. Currently, this is the only cure for diabetes.
Some people with type 2 diabetes are able to control their blood sugar with diet and exercise alone. Although they may not have to take medication, they still have diabetes and need to see their healthcare provider regularly for check-ups.
