Is There a Cure for Erectile Dysfunction?
Is there a cure for erectile dysfunction?
Although erectile dysfunction can often be treated successfully, for most men, there really isn't a "cure," per se. In other words, although medications or devices can help most men with ED achieve more normal erections, ongoing treatment is usually necessary to continue to see good results. Sometimes, erectile dysfunction is just a temporary problem due to psychological or physical stress or other temporary causes. In such cases, time is often the cure.
Rarely, penile implants or surgery may be recommended in order to treat erectile dysfunction in cases that have not responded to less-invasive treatments. If such measures work, they could, at least in some sense, be considered to be cures.
Sometimes, there is an underlying physical cause for erectile dysfunction, such as low testosterone, that can be easily corrected. In such cases, treating the underlying cause may effectively cure the erectile dysfunction, although ongoing treatment of the cause is usually necessary.
If a case of erectile dysfunction is caused by a medication as a side effect, simply stopping the offending medication may be all the cure that is needed.
